ICRITR, NIALS Host Capacity Building Workshop on WTO Agreements for MDA Legal Advisers
The Prof. Ngozi Egbuna International Centre for Regional Integration and Trade Research (ICRITR), in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), on 12 February 2026 hosted a free one-day Capacity Building Workshop for Legal Advisers across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The workshop focused on the objectives, scope, and implementation of agreements of the World Trade Organization (WTO), with the aim of strengthening institutional understanding of global trade obligations and promoting effective compliance at the national level.
About 135 participants, mainly legal officers from various MDAs, attended the programme. Sessions were designed to deepen participants’ knowledge of WTO agreements and enhance their capacity to provide informed legal guidance on trade-related matters within their respective institutions.
The capacity building workshop formed part of the 2025 outreach activities under the World Trade Organization World Chair Programme, an initiative targeted at building sustainable trade policy and legal expertise in developing countries.
Organisers described the workshop as a strategic contribution to strengthening Nigeria’s institutional framework for trade governance and reinforcing commitment to the rules-based multilateral trading system.
