Prof. Ngozi Egbuna Advocates African-Centric Monetary Policy at 7th Africa Emerging Markets Forum
Prof. Ngozi Eunice Egbuna, Director of the Prof. Ngozi Eunice Egbuna International Centre for Regional Integration and Trade Research (ICRITR), participated as a key speaker at the 7th Africa Emerging Markets Forum (AEMF 2026), held from July 29–30, 2026, at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) headquarters in Abuja.
Prof. Egbuna spoke during the session titled “Navigating Global Shocks: Monetary Policy Challenges for African Central Banks,” where she highlighted the need for African countries to develop monetary policy frameworks that are better suited to the continent’s unique economic realities.

She stated: “We need to develop an African-centric monetary policy framework that reflects the realities of our economies. Our monetary policy framework must go beyond price stability to incorporate financial stability, climate change and the informality of our economies.”
The forum was organised by the CBN in partnership with the Emerging Markets Forum (EMF) and the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) under the theme “Building Resilience Amidst Geoeconomic Uncertainties.” It brought together senior policymakers, central bankers, academics, development partners and private-sector leaders to examine major economic challenges facing Africa.

Discussions at the two-day forum covered key issues including macroeconomic stability, regional integration, cross-border payments, fintech, artificial intelligence, foreign direct investment, inflation, food-price volatility, technology transfer and inclusive growth, with a strong focus on strengthening Africa’s resilience amid global economic uncertainties.
