
ICRITR Director, Prof. Eunice Ngozi Egbuna, Conferred As Fellow Of The Nigerian Economic Society (NES)
ABUJA, NIGERIA — September 7, 2026: Professor Eunice Ngozi Egbuna has been formally conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES). The honour was bestowed on Monday during the opening of the 67th Annual NES Conference at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja. According to her accompanying certificate, the fellowship recognizes her distinguished and invaluable contributions to the advancement of economics in Nigeria and beyond.
Professor Egbuna currently serves as the Director of the Prof. Ngozi Egbuna International Centre for Regional Integration and Trade Research (ICRITR) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Her elevation to the society’s highest membership tier highlights a stellar three-decade career spanning central banking, monetary policy, and international trade.

Notably, Professor Egbuna held several senior positions at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) before serving as the Director General of the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI) from 2017 to 2021. At WAMI, she championed regional payment-system integrations and successfully mobilized approximately $15 million in African Development Bank (AfDB) financing to develop capital markets and a unique regional bank identifier system.
An accomplished author and researcher, her published works include ECOWAS Regional Integration: The West African Monetary Zone Experience and Nairability. She also serves as a Visiting Professor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University and has facilitated academic programs across several top-tier institutions, including the University of Nigeria and the African University of Science and Technology.

The conferment was a major activity during the four day NES conference theme, “Unlocking Africa’s Technology Potential: Sustainability and Economic Transformation – Emerging Issues and Policy Options.” Celebrating the milestone, the management, staff, and students of ICRITR released a statement congratulating Professor Egbuna, describing the fellowship as a fitting tribute to her lifelong dedication to Africa’s regional economic transformation.
